Bongs consist of four basic elements- the water chamber, the neck, the downstem, and of course, the bowl. The water chamber holds the water and the bowl holds the substance. The downstem connects the water chamber and the bowl. The neck is where the smoke rises and inhalation takes place. There are some other features that they can possess. The most common extra feature for bongs to have is ice catchers. These are notches on the neck of the bong that hold ice cubes. The purpose of ice catchers is to cool down the smoke before it gets inhaled.  This enhances the experience and makes it more enjoyable.
